For Corey...
In The Dramatic Vision of August Wilson, Sandra G. Shannon writes that, "Wilson praises this song for being among the few popular rhythm and blues recordings that responded to social issues."
Our next assignment for one of my classes, given by Richard Schlotter at Boston University, is to start a ten-minute play about what's going on. It's not easy, trying to wrap your head entirely around what's going on in this country. Where do you start? How far back? Bush? Clinton? Reagan? Adam and Eve? Do you just pair it down to one thing, or make a kaleidoscope?--and then keep turning the wheel?

Thanks J!
As for where to start for your writing assignment, I respectfully suggest eyeballing the time that Williams describes in the opening of 'Menagerie'.
There's an awful lot of people out there who are '...having their fingers pressed forcibly down on the fiery Braille alphabet of a dissolving economy.'
What a great assignment! So many possibilities.
I'm currently traveling through the bible belt, and one word that seems to be appropriate around many corners is "ignorance."
That's what's going on.
lafe...isn't it amazing...i don't know sometimes if democracy is such a good idea, because so many people seem unqualified to make such a serious decision as voting for a president...sometimes i think a benevolent dictator is the way to go...i know that sounds elitist, but some people really are that dumb...it seems that at some point we all agreed that everyone's opinion is worth something, when in reality some people truly don't have a valid opinion; they are uneducated or ill-informed or prejudiced or something...
